PICHULIK and KAT VAN DUINEN launched their SS15 Capsule Collection – Kat van Duinen garments and PICHULIK designing ornamentation entitled BARAKA.

Both brands are inspired by the rich, vibrant and eclectic continent of Africa. From the local artisans and craftsmen to this continent’s distinct colour palette and melting pot of effervescent traditions and cultures, PICHULIK and Kat van Duinen marry African aesthetics with fine craftsmanship and premium materials.

PICHULIK is a bespoke range of accessories handcrafted with locally manufactured ropes, and found materials in Cape Town, South Africa. PICHULIK prides itself on being a brand of bold accessories for brave woman. PICHULIK draws likeness to the neckpieces of the Ottoman Empire and intend these talismans to alchemise fear to courage in the wearer. Various woven materials are combined with agate stones from Ghana, fossilised forms from Niger, brass parts from West Africa and recycled glass from Ethiopia.

Kat van Duinen is founded on the principle of providing high-quality fashion to clientele who value premium materials, unrivalled craftsmanship, proudly South African goods and a personalised service. Kat van Duinen clients are women who are conscious and intentional about building their wardrobes, compiling a closet that is striking yet timeless, refined yet eclectic, covetable and elegant, and will live on as treasured pieces for generations to come.

DNA

PICHULIK transforms ropes into ornamentation. Marrying precious trade beads and stones and everyday woven materials, the mundane becomes precious. An Alchemy of materials and an Alchemy to the wearer. For the woman who adores effortless chic – that understated sexiness found in minimalistic cuts, luxurious fabrics and impeccable tailoring – yet loves an element of surprise, like a hit of electric blue or vibrant shot of African print, Kat van Duinen pieces are designed for you.

COLLECTION INSPIRATION FOR MBFWCT

BARAKA, which (Arabic: ةكرب†) is the beneficent force from God that flows through the physical and spiritual spheres as prosperity, protection, and happiness. This collection is informed by Islamic Malian architecture of North Africa, and the garb of Islamic tribes that wander these lands. Linen and its qualities are reimagined with rope detailing into contemporary yet classic Kat Van Duinen lines. These white plains of linen are ornamented with quintessential PICHULIK pieces that are woven and blessed with materials and stones sourced from Africa and the Middle East. Imbuing the everyday with the sacred, these garments form a capsule collection that allows elegant interchangeable summerwear, and these accessories are sacred talismans to unite a network of brave graceful women who make up the PICHULIK and KAT VAN DUINEN community.
